Prehistoric Preschool

Prehistoric Preschool is a Museum program for 3-5 year-olds and their adult companions to explore natural history topics in a supportive and fun atmosphere. All activities are child-centered, hands-on, and age appropriate. Classes include two hours of crafts, songs, games, puppet shows, investigating specimens from the Museum's collections, Museum visits, and a fun and healthy snack.  Classes take place every other week

New Mexico’s Dinosaurs & Prehistoric Reptiles: 
What do Tyrannosaurs Rex, Seismosaurus, and Quetzalcoatlus all have in common? Despite being some of the biggest animals of their kind they are also all found here in New Mexico. So get your magnify glass and pickax and prepare for an adventure into prehistoric times to discover what dinosaurs and prehistoric reptiles are unique to New Mexico!

Thursday mornings, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.: August 31st, September 14th, September 28th, & October 12th  

Thursday afternoons, 2 – 4 p.m.: August 31st, September 14th, September 28th, & October 12th               

Saturday mornings, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.: September 2nd, September 16th, September 30th, & October 14th

    Rocks & Volcanoes
    Prepare your young geologist for an adventure into the depths of the Earth to understand the geologic features of New Mexico. Explore the wonders within the Earth’s crust as we discuss the rock cycle, mineralogy, and explosive volcanoes. So grab your rock hammer and embark on an epic adventure to discover the stories rocks have to tell!

    • Thursday mornings, 11 – 1 p.m.: October 26th, November 9th, November 16th, & December 7th

      Thursday afternoons, 2 – 4 p.m.: October 26th, November 9th, November 16th, & December 7th

      Saturday mornings, 11 – 1 p.m.: October 28th, November 11th, November 18th, & December 10th

      Saturday afternoons, 2 – 4 p.m.: October 28th, November 11th, November 18th, & December 10th

    New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science at 1801 Mountain Rd NW Albuquerque NM, 87104

    Preregistration is required.  Click here to register.  

    All class participants must be accompanied by an adult. No more than two children may be registered per adult companion and no more than two adult companions may accompany any one child. Permission for attendance by siblings younger than 3 is made on a case-by-case basis with Early Childhood Educator. Maximum class size is 12 children and their adult companions. 

    Cancellations made within seven days before the program are subject to forfeiture of the full payment. Cancellations made prior to seven days before the program are subject to a 50% handling fee. A waiting list will be maintained for each session that is full; no deposit is required. People on the waiting list will be notified in sequential order. Full refund will be given if the session is canceled by the Museum due to low enrollment. The New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science reserves the right to cancel any event that does not reach a minimum of 6 participants.     

    $90.00 for the first child, $81.00 for the second child in the same family.  Museum members receive a 10% discount.  Scholarships are available for children who qualify.
